Arron Spertner's "Jewelry Palace" circa 1893

Spertner Jewelers was established in 1879 by Aaron Spertner in the central business district of Norfolk, VA. Little is known about Aaron but he developed a thriving business, especially among the railroad employees.  He was succeeded by his brother, Edward Spertner who was a traveling salesman and one time Vaudevillian.

When Ed was 36, he married Hannah Brenner who was 18 and together they continued developing the business. In 1920, Hannah's brother Joseph Brenner joined the firm and began selling jewelry directly in the community by travelling to places of business with a small selection of watches and jewelry.

As the firm prospered, Joseph's son Lawrence entered the business and expanded to five locations throughout the Hampton Roads area.

Today, Spertner Jewelers is operated by Lawrence and his son Martin from one location in Norfolk, VA to better serve their customers with personalized attention. Spertner Jewelers enjoys a fine reputation of integrity and quality within the community.
